ORIGINS

Marin was introduced in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. She is mistaken for Zelda by Link when she finds him washed up on the shore of the mysterious Koholint Island. She and Malon are very similar in appearance and personality. Their fathers even share similar names (Talon and Tarin). Interestingly enough, Marin is based off of Princess Zelda, which means indirectly, Zelda is the basis for Malon's inspiration as well.

Zelda, is the namesake of the Legend of Zelda series. She is Hyrule's princess. Zelda is first introduced in Nintendo's 1986's The Legend of Zelda. She has gone through many changes throughout the many years. The Zelda featured here is from A Link to the Past. It is believed by many that the Link from Link's Awakening and from A Link to the Past are indeed the very same person. Which would mean this Zelda could be the basis for Marin. None of this has been confirmed or denied by the game's creators. So it is all merely fan speculation.
