EPONA

Epona, Malon's beloved horse. She is a foal when we meet her, running around the paddock. She is described as a wild horse and really can only be tamed by Epona's Song. She serves as Link's steed and a much faster method of transportation across Hyrule.

Seven years must pass before Link is given the opportunity to ride her. He must race Ingo (with Epona as his horse) twice before she is given to him. And with her freedom from Ingo's tyranny, comes the freedom of the rest of the ranch. Once aquired, all Link has to do is play Epona's Song anywhere in Hyrule Field to summon her.

Malon cherishes Epona greatly. The two are great friends as Malon mentions that she is the only one who is able to tame Epona (before Link came along). Her mother composed Epona's Song and she is delighted to teach it to her new friend when he ventures onto the ranch.
